After Land, Air, Food Uber Enters Sea to Provide Fast Boat Services
Uber which is popular for providing its services on land, air, food is now taking on another big step with exploring the new dimensions of the sea. The San-Francisco based ride-hailing unicorn on Wednesday launched UberBOAT services in Mumbai, in partnership with the Maharashtra Maritime Board.
The newly launched service, UberBOAT will cover the already existing ferry routes around the seas of Mumbai. Reports suggest that the services will launch from February first and will cover routes from Mandwa Jetty, the Gateway of India and Elephanta Islands.
As per the sources, riders will now be able to enjoy two types of sea services via the UBER app - UberBOAT and UberBOAT XL. With a capacity of 6-7 seats UberBoat will charge around 5,700, and a 10 seater UberBOAT XL for Rs 9,500.
Prabhjeet Singh, head of Uber in India said in a press conference, “We are excited to launch UberBOAT in Mumbai, in partnership with the Maharashtra Maritime Board. With UberBOAT, we will tap the vast potential of the city’s waterways transport system. We aim to provide efficient and easily accessible services to riders who are looking at navigating through these specific routes. With this service, boat operators will be able to gain access to Uber’s highly-engaged rider base and enhance their earning opportunity.”
