FIFA World Cup 2022:France Ends Morocco's Historic Run, Set For Final Vs. Argentina
France will take on Argentina in the World Cup final after beating Morocco 2-0 in the semi-final on December 14 to stay on course for a successful title defense and end the fairytale run of the north Africans in Qatar.
Theo Hernandez and Randal Kolo Muani provided France with breakthroughs as they defeated Morocco 2-0, in the semi-final match of the FIFA World Cup 2022, at the Al Bayt Stadium on Thursday (IST).
France became the first defending champions to qualify for consecutive World Cup finals since Brazil did it in 1998. France will now face Argentina in the summit clash of the tournament on Sunday.
Major Highlights
Theo Hernandez scored in the fifth minute in a perfect start for the holders, looking for an early strike to silence the rowdy Moroccan support and dent the confidence of their team.
But it still proved a close-run clash as Morocco overcame injury blows and showed no deference to France's reputation, taking the game to them in a gallant effort that added to the glowing reputation they have earned at the tournament.
But Morocco was never overawed and had the opportunity as Azzedine Ounahi forced two good saves out of French captain Hugo Lloris with speculative efforts. Curling set-pieces put the French defence under pressure.
