India Now Fifth Worst Coronavirus Hit Country In The World
India, on Saturday surpassed Spain to become the fifth worst-hit country due to coronavirus. The total cases in the country now stands at 2,45,670.
India registered a record single-day spike of 9,887 cases and 294 deaths by Saturday, pushing the tally to 2,36,657 and the death toll to 6,642.
Out of all the cases reported, Maharashtra has the most number of cases followed by Tamil Nadu at 28,694 Covid-19 cases, Delhi at 26,334, Gujarat at 19,094, Rajasthan at 10,084, Uttar Pradesh at 9,733, and Madhya Pradesh at 8,996.
India’s case fatality ratio (CFR, number of deaths per 100 cases) still remains low — 2.8 percent. Globally, the CFR is 5.8 percent. In the US, it is 5.7 percent, in Brazil it is 5.5 percent, and in Russia it is 1.2 percent.
However, India has been regularly reporting around 9000-10000 in the past few days. Meanwhile, globally over 6.8 million people have been infected. The death toll has neared the 4 lakh-mark, while 30 lakh have recovered.
