India Was Fined An 80% Match Fee In The First ODI.
On Sunday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) fined India 80% of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate against Bangladesh,in the first one-day international, which the visitors lost by 1 wicket.
Ranjan Madugalle of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction after India was ruled 4 overs short of the target after time allowances were considered.
As per Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, players who fail to bowl in the allotted time are fined 20% of their match fee.
No need for a formal hearing since Rohit Sharma pled guilty to the offense and accepted the proposed sanction. On-field umpires Michael Gough and Tanvir Ahmed, 3rd umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid and 4th umpire Gazi Sohel leveled the charge.
On a slow pitch, India struggled with the bat, skittled out for 186 in 41.2 overs despite having batting resources available until number 9. As the rest of the batters fell around him, K.L Rahul made 73 off 70 balls.
India took a wicket on the very 1st ball in their defense of 186 and triggered a Bangladesh collapse from 128/4 to 136/9 in 26 balls. But Mehidy Hasan Miraz made an unbeaten 38 and stitched an unbroken last-wicket stand of 51 off 41 balls, with Mustafizur Rahman being ten not out to give Bangladesh a heroic victory.
Bangladesh now has a 1-0 lead in the 3-match series, with the 2nd match to be played at the same venue on Wednesday.
