Melancholy For Indian Doctors-US Visa
A 45-year-old Pulmonologist, Dr. Tarkeshwar Tiwary feels the loss of dignity and respect, as he remarks, the American dream is no longer alive, while looking back at his long journey for waiting and chasing a stable future in the United States Of America.
Dr. Tiwary is one of the many, licensed Indian physicians, with two Indian born children, waiting for permanent residency under the employment-based visa. The wait for a green card (citizenship) has become too long to bear. He adds that if he had gone to any other country like Canada or Australia, he would have become citizen much earlier.
The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), policy analyst’s at CATO Institute, David Bier said that the waiting time has been increased since 2003/4 when there was a big jump, and the processing was stopped for a couple of years. Lots of people have given up.
The children of Dr. Tiwary, a boy at University of Pittsburgh and daughter entering in High School, have spent their majority of lives here and think themselves as Americans, however when it comes to job opportunities they will lack any viable employment options.
