VHP Files Complaint Over Marriage of Kumbh Mela Fame Monalisa
The Kerala unit of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has filed a complaint with the state police seeking an investigation into the marriage of social media personality Monalisa Bhosle, who rose to fame during the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 in Prayagraj.
The complaint was submitted by VHP Kerala state general secretary Anil Vilayil to the Director General of Police and the Station House Officer of Poovar Police Station. The organisation has requested an inquiry under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
According to the VHP, the interfaith marriage between Monalisa Bhosle and Mohammed Farman Khan may be illegal because the bride is allegedly a minor. The organisation claims that Monalisa is under 18 years of age and has demanded action against the couple as well as those who participated in the ceremony.
The wedding reportedly took place on March 11, 2026, at the Sree Narayana Guru Temple. The VHP cited social media videos of Monalisa’s alleged 16th birthday celebration in January 2025 as evidence supporting its claim.
However, the couple has strongly denied the allegations. They stated that Monalisa is legally an adult and produced a birth certificate issued in Indore showing her date of birth as January 1, 2008, making her 18 years old.
Monalisa became widely known after a video of her selling rudraksha beads during the Kumbh Mela went viral online. She later travelled to Kerala for the shooting of a film in Poovar, where she reportedly developed a relationship with Farman Khan.
Police officials said the couple approached the Thampanoor Police Station seeking protection before the wedding. Authorities informed the family that Monalisa was legally an adult, after which the couple proceeded with the ceremony.
