Sun Stops Play In Napier - Ind Vs Nz First ODI : India Wins by 8 Wickets
India Vs New Zealand first ODI in Napier was stopped because of sharp sunlight which made it difficult for the batsman to play considering the safety issues.
New Zealand had won the toss and decided to bat first. India managed to get new Zealand all out at 157. When the match was stopped India was at 43 for 1. It was bright and sunny but the play was stopped immediately after the dinner break.
India was able to get new Zealand our with such low score to chase due to the fantastic bowling by Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Shami.
Usually, grounds have the playing surface facing North-South, but McLean Park where today's match was scheduled has it facing East-West. Hence, this issue of shadows created by the setting sun. Interestingly, the venue has faced similar problems before as well. Two years ago, a T20I between Bangladesh and New Zealand was held up because of the same issue. Earlier this year, a Super smash match between Central Districts and Canterbury was also stopped for a while
Meanwhile, the setting sun stopping the match has left many people amused by twitter flooding with numerous posts. However, the match resumed later and India won the match defeating New Zealand by 8 wickets.
