Australia Defeat India to Claim Their 5th Women’s T20 World Cup
Defending champions Australia won their fifth Women’s Twenty20 World Cup with an 85-run victory over India at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Chasing a huge total of 185, India got off to a poor start and lost four wickets inside the powerplay and were restricted at a low score of 99 losing all the wickets in 19.1 overs.
Commencing it with a totally opposite start, the Australian side saw half-centuries from openers Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney and posted a massive total on the board. Healy blasted 75 off 39 balls, while Mooney scored an unbeaten 78.
Indian batswomen found it hard to score high off the boundaries. The poor fielding from the Indian side also didn't help their cause. Skipper Meg Lanning was caught for 16, Ashleigh Gardner lasted just three balls and Rachael Haynes made only four. India also dropped a lot of catches.
Australia completely dominated the match and never allowed India to get back in the game. While Australia didn’t have the smoothest of the tournament.
Australia was also the winner of 2010, 2012, 2014 and 2018 women’sT20 World Cup. This is their Fifth title win.
