Cyclone Bulbul swerved towards Bangladesh early on Sunday after losing strength steadily. But, it has taken the lives of at least 10 and let 4.6 lakh people affected severely. Also, 6000 houses were damaged. Eight fishermen along with and onboard MV Chandrani are still missing. Five persons (four in North 24 Parganas, one in East Midnapore’s Nandigram) died after uprooted trees fell on them. One person died after building collapse in North 24 Parganas and two died in Hooghly of electrocution and one more when trawler capsized.
“Reviewed the situation in the wake of cyclone conditions and heavy rain in parts of Eastern India. Spoke to WB CM @MamataOfficial regarding the situation arising due to Cyclone Bulbul. Assured all possible assistance from the Centre. I pray for everyone’s safety and well-being,” said Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has postponed her schedule of visiting north Bengal to survey the affected areas around Namkhana and Bakkhali and meet the Kakdwip administration to review relief and rehabilitation measures. She will visit affected areas at Basirhat, North 24 Parganas on Wednesday.

The NDRF, along with the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), police and fire personnel, is working to clear road blockades caused by fallen trees and branches. “We have already engaged workers to clear the roads and pump out water from low-lying areas. We are hopeful our work will be over by tonight," said a KMC official.
