Payal Malik Breaks Down in Temple, Apologizes for Kali Maa Video Controversy

Influencer and Bigg Boss OTT 3 contestant Payal Malik issued an emotional public apology after facing severe backlash over a video in which she portrayed Goddess Kali. The now-deleted video sparked outrage for allegedly hurting religious sentiments, prompting Malik to visit a Kali Mata Temple in Patiala on July 22, where she tearfully sought forgiveness.
Accompanied by her husband Armaan Malik and their daughter Tuba, Payal participated in temple service—cleaning utensils and serving food—as an act of repentance. Breaking down during the visit, she said, “Whatever punishment is given to me, I am ready to accept it.”
Addressing the media, Payal explained that the video was made three months ago as a creative expression for her daughter, a devotee of Kali Maa. “I didn’t intend to hurt anyone. It was a mistake. I sincerely apologise and hope others won’t repeat it,” she said.
She added that she deleted the video immediately after receiving negative feedback. However, the footage resurfaced after being saved and reshared by other social media accounts.
The video showed Payal dressed as Mahakali, complete with traditional symbols like a Trishul and crown. Critics labelled it disrespectful and insensitive, leading to a storm of online criticism.
Payal and Armaan Malik are prominent digital personalities. Armaan is known for his unconventional marital life—married to both Payal and her friend Kritika Malik. The trio, who have four children together, recently appeared on Bigg Boss OTT 3.
Despite the controversy, many fans commended Payal’s public act of atonement, while others continued to express disappointment. As the debate rages on, her temple visit stands as a gesture of remorse amid the rising scrutiny of influencers and religious representation online.
