Shastri Back As Team India Head Coach!

BCCI reappointed Ravi Shastri as the head coach of men’s senior national team. His new term will end on 21^st November 2021. Shastri took over this position in July 2017 on a two-year contract. Out of the total six candidates, who applied for this position, Kapil Dev-led Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) shortlisted three names.

The committee also included former cricketers Anshuman Gaekwad and Shantha Rangaswamy. The six candidates, apart from Ravi Shastri were, Australia's Tom Moody, New Zealand's Mike Hesson, West Indies’ Phil Simmons and India’s Lalchand Rajput and Robin Singh. Shastri was a clear favorite.

The final three candidates were Hesson, Moody and Shastri. The parameters to evaluate these candidates were – a) experience of coaching, b) achievements in coaching, c) coaching philosophy, d) communication and e) knowledge of modern coaching tools. They were given marks out of 100, based on their specific skills.

Shastri gave his interview from the Caribbean, where he is currently present with team India for the upcoming two test matches. After interviewing all the three candidates, Kapil Dev said, “All of them were excellent. I felt Shastri had more skills in communication. We have given the marks after listening to their presentations.” He further added, “We haven't asked anyone. There was no scope for that. Because if we take his (Kohli's) views, we would have to take the entire team’s view too”.
