The US Embassy has announced that anyone who need to renew their US visas can now submit applications using Dropbox while stating that such requests would not be considered over email.
The US embassy and consulates in India have prepared for a record number of visa requests from Indian students in 2023, according to John Ballard, the consular chief at the US Consulate General in Mumbai.
In 2022, the US embassy processed more than 1,25,000 student visas.
The number of students we adjudicated in India was the highest we've ever had, and we anticipate that in 2023, even more Indian students will come to seek for visas, according to Ballard, who spoke to PTI.
The US announced additional steps last month, including the scheduling of special interviews for first applicants and boosting the number of consular staff members.
The US embassy in Delhi and the consulates in Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, and Hyderabad held "special Saturday interview days" on January 21 as part of a multi-pronged effort to reduce the visa backlog.
In the upcoming months, the mission will keep making "extra slots" available for appointments to take place on particular Saturdays.
