Zomato Agent Held For Assaulting Woman
A Bengaluru woman alleged Wednesday that she was abused by a Zomato delivery agent, leading to his arrest on the same day by the city police. In a video which was posted by, Hitesha Chandranee on Twitter, she claimed as “hit” and “left bleeding” by the personnel, who “ran off” after the incident. “So guys, my Zomato order was late and I was talking to the customer care, and meanwhile, the delivery men just did this,” she told these words in tears by pointing out to her bleeding nose.
She also claimed that her nose was broken in the accident and she needed to undergo surgery for the same. Tagging Zomato and the Bengaluru police team in her post, she said, she had filed a complaint with customer care asking them to either deliver the food free of cost or cancel her order. However, the accused, later identified as Kamaraj and arrested after Hitesha lodged a complaint at the Electronic City Police Station.
Senior police from the station said that Kamaraj has alleged that he pushed her in self-defense. We have taken Kamaraj into custody, who is a delivery person from Zomato, based on the complaint filed by Hitesha. Kamaraj gave a statement stating the woman had asked for a refund for the order. He told her that the refund was not possible, but she refused to accept the food, and according to Kamaraj, this led to a verbal attack by Hitesha. He alleged she tried to hit him with her chappals, and in self-defense, he pushed her which has resulted in the injury. This is the version of Kamaraj.
In response to the incident, Zomato had issued a statement as, “We can assure you this is not the experience our delivery universe stands for. Our local representative shall be in touch with you shortly to help you with the police investigation along with assistance on the medical care required.”
