Another Sikh Lost Life to Hate Crime in America
Hate crimes in America have become common as another elderly Sikh man was stabbed to death, while he was doing his evening walk near his home in Tracy, Sacramento. The man was identified as Parmjit Singh who is 64-year-old. The incident had happened around 9.00 pm on Sunday. The hunt for the culprit is started now. Gurinder Singh Khalsa, a prominent Sikh activist and founder of SikhsPAC said that they hadn’t sleep in the night, after coming to know that an elderly person was dead. He called it a ‘hate crime’.
“It is shocking and upsetting that despite the fact that Sikhs continue to add to the country by their hard work and dedication, they are still misunderstood (sic),” he said. Khalsa from Indiana said that SikhsPAC is to create awareness about Sikh faith through the introduction of Sikh history in public schools so that the hate crimes will be reduced. “There are 15 million students passing in America every year and they don’t know about Sikhs. They often associate Sikhs with Muslims,” he added.
“Would like to see 2020 Dems talk about the string of hate violence Sikh Americans have faced in this country, esp. after 9/11. Our community often bears the brunt of islamophobic and xenophobic hate and yet silence. There are folks who really despise turbans, beards and brown skin,” New York-based Sikh lawyer and civil rights activist Jo Kaur tweeted.
This makes me so mad.
