Army Officer, Booked for Assaulting SpiceJet Staff, Files FIR Alleging Mistreatment

An Army officer accused of assaulting SpiceJet ground staff at Srinagar Airport has filed a counter-FIR, alleging he was mistreated and missed his flight. The incident occurred on July 26 during boarding for SpiceJet flight SG-386 to Delhi.

According to SpiceJet, the officer was carrying 16 kg of cabin baggage — more than double the 7 kg allowance. When informed of the excess and the need to pay additional charges, he allegedly refused and tried to forcefully access the aerobridge without completing security formalities. A CISF official escorted him back, where tensions reportedly escalated, resulting in the officer physically assaulting four staff members.

SpiceJet termed the attack as “murderous,” stating that one employee fainted and was repeatedly kicked, while another suffered a broken jaw and nasal bleeding. All injured staff were hospitalized. The airline has filed an FIR, submitted CCTV footage, and initiated steps to place the officer on the no-fly list.

The Army responded by acknowledging the matter and stated that it is fully cooperating with the investigation. “The Indian Army is committed to upholding the highest standards of conduct and discipline,” the statement read.

The officer, who was reportedly on emergency leave, claims he was mistreated by the airline staff. As the case unfolds, both parties have filed official complaints, and authorities are now investigating the incident based on CCTV evidence and witness accounts.
