Bomb Scare on Air India Express Flight; IndiGo Receives Security Threat for Five Major Airports
A major security alert was triggered on Wednesday after an Air India Express flight bound for Varanasi received a bomb threat mid-operation. The airline immediately activated emergency protocols, alerting the government-appointed Bomb Threat Assessment Committee to assess the situation.
In an official statement, an Air India Express spokesperson confirmed the incident, saying, “One of our flights to Varanasi received a security threat. In line with protocol, the committee was immediately alerted, and all necessary security procedures were promptly initiated.” The spokesperson further assured that the flight landed safely, and all passengers were safely disembarked without incident. The aircraft has been grounded temporarily and will resume operations only after completing all mandated security checks and clearances.
Meanwhile, in a separate but alarming development, IndiGo Airlines reportedly received digital security threats targeting five major Indian airports — Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Thiruvananthapuram. Authorities have taken the threats seriously, with heightened security measures deployed across these airports. Additional checks, increased surveillance, and enhanced passenger screening are being implemented to ensure safety.
Aviation and security agencies, including the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) and local airport authorities, are coordinating to verify the authenticity of the threats. Preliminary reports suggest that the alerts were received through digital communication channels, and cybercrime units have been roped in to trace the source.
Both airlines have reiterated their commitment to passenger safety and are cooperating fully with security agencies. While no explosives have been found so far, the incidents have caused temporary concern among passengers and officials. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, emphasizing that maintaining safety and public confidence in air travel remains their top priority.
