Bomb Threat Forces IndiGo Flight Diversion to Mumbai — All Safe
Panic gripped passengers on an IndiGo flight from Jeddah to Hyderabad after authorities received a threat email claiming the presence of a “human bomb” onboard. Acting swiftly, the flight was diverted to Mumbai, where it landed safely under tight security.
According to police, the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) received the threat around 5:30 am on Saturday, warning officials to “prevent the flight from landing in Hyderabad.” The email alleged that LTTE-ISI operatives were planning a “1984 Madras Airport-style blast.”
The alert prompted immediate action from aviation and security agencies. Upon landing in Mumbai, the aircraft underwent extensive security screening, and all passengers were safely evacuated. No explosives or suspicious items were found.
A case was registered, and investigations are ongoing to trace the origin of the email. Authorities suspect it could be a hoax, but are treating it with utmost seriousness.
IndiGo, in a statement, confirmed the security threat and said it followed standard protocol, notifying authorities immediately and cooperating during the checks. “We made every effort to minimize passenger inconvenience, offering refreshments and timely updates,” an airline spokesperson said.
The incident underscores the growing challenge of aviation security threats and the importance of rapid coordination between airlines, airport authorities, and law enforcement to ensure passenger safety.
