It is an Indian tradition that Mangalasutra in the wedding will be tied by the groom to the bride. But, the two women from Karnataka has changed the age-old tradition and tied a knot to their grooms!
The two couples from Nalatwad town, Vijayapura district has set a new example of gender equality on Monday by tying mangalsutras around their husbands’ necks.
Amit and Priya, who belongs to Lingayat and Kuruba community respectively, are entered into a new life following the teachings of 12th-century Lingayat community icon Basavanna who had advocated for equality of genders in his time. Both Amit and Priya are software engineers.
Another couple Prabhuraj and Ankita also belonged to two different communities did the same without setting an ‘auspicious time’ for their wedding. There was no ‘Kanyadaan’ too.
