The number of COVID-19 infections in India has surged past 5,194 with the death toll nearing 149.
The highest number of confirmed cases are from Maharashtra at 893, followed by Tamil Nadu at 690 and Delhi with 576 cases. The state of Maharashtra has also reported the most number of deaths at 48, followed by Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh at 13, Telangana, Punjab and Delhi seven each and Tamil Nadu with five fatalities.
Also, 353 people were cured or discharged, according to the Health ministry. Reports of COVID-19 positive also came from the islands of Andaman and Nicobar after they reported 10 cases today.
Jharkhand has reported four cases and Manipur two. Tripura, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh have reported one case of the infection each.
Meanwhile, the government has offered free testing and treatment to the beneficiaries of Ayushman Bharat (AB-PMJAY).
“Testing and treatment of COVID-19 are already available for free in public facilities. Now, more than 50 crore citizens, eligible under the health assurance scheme will be able to avail free testing through private labs and treatment for COVID-19 in impaneled hospitals,” said National Health Authority (NHA) in a statement.
