Covid Vaccine Only Possible By 2022 While Serum Institute Claims It By January 2021

In a shocking news, and contrary to what Serum Institute of India said, AIIMS Director RandeepGuleria has said that common people in India will have to wait for 2022 to receive the vaccines.

This comes as a mini-shock to everyone hoping for coronavirus vaccine in the near end of the year or by the first quarter of 2021. Serum Institute of India had earlier claimed that the vaccine could be available in Indian market latest by January.

Randeep Guleria said, “It will take more than a year”. “In our country the population is large; we need time to see how the vaccine can be bought from the market like a flu vaccine and take it. That will actually be the ideal situation.”

Distribution of vaccine to every part of the country including the remote areas will be a yet another problem once the vaccine is available. However, Government has claimed to use Anganwadicentres and other buildings for the purpose.

The second challenge, Dr Randeep Guleria said, would be to figure out the positioning of another vaccine that comes out later and is seen as more effective than the first one.

On the other hand, the Serum Institute has joined hands with AstraZeneca for the production of the coronavirus vaccine, named ‘Covishield’, developed by Oxford University.
