Engineering skills prove helpful for Kanpur based IIT student for saving the life of a Co-passenger in flight
The skills that one learns during his academic lessons may prove helpful in saving the life of an individual. College lessons regarding maintaining the right mindset during intense pressure could prove helpful.
When traveling to New Delhi from Geneva via Moscow, IIT Kanpur senior student Karttekiya Mangalam, managed to save the life of one of his co-passengers in flight. The 30-year-old co-passenger suffering from Diabetes Type 1 condition was offered with life-saving medical treatment by this student who was on his way back after attending a program held at (EPFL) Ecole Polytechnique Federale De Lausanne.
Mangalam was able to make use of his basic level knowledge learned during his engineering lessons of maintaining the right level of mindset, even when under intense pressure. He offered with best precautionary treatment to the patient to help save his life.
As per Mangalam, it all started after he noticed slight commotion going on onboard the flight. The incident took place at midnight when one of the stewardesses was looking around for an onboard doctor. It was a lucky day for 30-year-old Thomas who was suffering from Diabetes type 1 condition.
Thomas had to suffer from this severe condition as he forgot his life saving medical kit at the security check deposit tray at the Moscow Airport. Thomas made use of this device at the time of Insulin injection and was now without insulin for about five hours on the flight.
This delay in insulin dosage also left Thomas to strangle as a sudden drop in his blood sugar level was noticed, which was much above the normal sugar level. His condition began to get worse and was on the verge of being collapsed onboard the flight.
