Feds Plan to Catch Fake Foreign Students in the US
Federal agents from the Homeland Security Investigations unit used a fake university ‘University of Farmington’ to find non-immigrants who are staying in the United States illegally.
The university is being used by foreign citizens as a "pay-to-stay" scheme which allows them to stay in the United States.
Though they say they were enrolled as full-time students in an institution that was certified by the Student and Exchange Visitor Program, each of the registered members wouldn’t attend any classes or any other educational activities.
There is no staff in this institution from February 2017 until earlier this month, undercover agents posed as owners and employees of the university.
It is also said that every student knew the university's programs were not approved by Homeland Security and that it was illegal.
Eight people were charged for creating fake student records and transcripts to deceive the authorities.
The university is also maintaining .edu website set up with a physical address to a building on Northwestern Highway just south of 13 Mile.
Khaalid Walls said that the individuals were not undocumented or illegal aliens but they are nonimmigrant aliens. “Fake foreign students” would be more correct.
