Four Indian Students Injured in Knife Attack at Russian University Hostel
Four Indian medical students were injured in a knife attack at a university hostel in Ufa, Russia, on Saturday, according to the Indian Embassy in Moscow. The incident occurred at a sports hall within the foreign students’ hostel of a medical university in the Bashkortostan Republic, sparking panic among residents.
In an official statement posted on social media, the Indian Embassy confirmed that several individuals were injured, including four Indian nationals. Embassy officials said they are in close contact with local authorities, and representatives from the Indian Consulate in Kazan—located around 400 kilometres away—were immediately dispatched to Ufa to assist the injured students.
Local media reports stated that at least six people were wounded in the stabbing incident, including two police officers who were attacked while attempting to arrest the assailant. According to preliminary findings, a 15-year-old teenager armed with a knife entered the dormitory and began attacking students.
Interior Ministry spokesperson Major General Irina Volk said the attacker resisted arrest and stabbed two police officers before injuring himself. He has since been admitted to a children’s hospital in serious condition. The injured students and police personnel are undergoing treatment at a local clinical hospital.
Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos, with bloodstains visible at the site. Television footage showed emergency services rushing the wounded to hospitals in ambulance vans.
The Russian Investigative Committee has launched a probe into the incident to determine the motive behind the attack. Indian authorities have assured that all necessary assistance will be provided to the injured students and their families, and the situation continues to be closely monitored.
