Green Card: A Nightmare for 50000 Indians
In a recent policy analysis from the Cato Institute, some of the facts were highlighted about Indians getting a green card. It analyzed that, as the country limit, for issuances of green card, for EB2 and EB3 categories is reached for India, people who applied in 2018 have to wait for half a century to get a green card. It also said that green card applicants from other countries, except China, are much ahead in line.
Indians, among all the other nationals, wait for the longest to obtain green cards or permanent residency in the US.
The US immigration law puts an upper cap on the number of green card issuances per country. As a result, there is a huge backlog. This law was last revised three decades ago.
If the immigrant’s reforms are not introduced soon enough, this backlog will continue to grow many folds. Apart from Indians, Chinese, Mexicans and Filipinos are the other three nationalities for whom the country limit for a Green card has reached.
It is reported that at least fifty thousand Indians will die without getting a green card.
