Hyderabad Awaits Crescent Moon Sighting to Mark Start of Ramzan
Hyderabad is preparing to welcome the holy month of Ramzan as the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee convenes to confirm the sighting of the crescent moon. The committee’s announcement will determine whether fasting begins on Thursday or Friday.
While countries such as Saudi Arabia have already commenced Ramadan following moon sighting, Indian cities traditionally rely on local confirmation. The committee will gather reports from various parts of the country before issuing an official statement.
Across Hyderabad, mosques have been cleaned and decorated in anticipation of large congregations. At the historic Mecca Masjid, special arrangements have been made for Taraweeh prayers, during which chapters of the Holy Quran are recited nightly. In some mosques, accommodations have also been organized for women worshippers, reflecting inclusive preparations.
Taraweeh prayers are typically held after Isha prayers, with certain mosques scheduling them around 10:30 pm to accommodate working professionals and businesspersons. If the moon is not sighted, the holy month will commence a day later.
For the faithful, the sighting of the crescent moon symbolizes spiritual renewal, self-discipline, and charity. As families prepare for fasting and nightly prayers, the city awaits the committee’s decision with devotion and anticipation.
