Makar Sankranti Tragedy: Five Killed in Bhopal Road Accident
A tragic road accident claimed the lives of five people and left at least 10 others injured in Madhya Pradesh’s capital Bhopal late Wednesday night. The incident occurred in the Berasia area when a pickup van collided head-on with a tractor trolley carrying pilgrims returning from a Makar Sankranti holy dip.
According to police officials, the tractor trolley was transporting devotees who had visited Narmadapuram to take a ritual bath on the occasion of the festival. The pickup van, which was heading toward Narmadapuram, crashed into the trolley under circumstances that are still being investigated.
Emergency services rushed to the scene after receiving information about the accident. Police personnel and local residents worked together to rescue passengers trapped inside the severely damaged vehicles. Five occupants of the van, including members of the same family, died on the spot due to the impact.
The deceased were identified as Mukesh Ahirwar (40), Babri Bai (60), Deepak (14), Laxmi Bai (60), and Hari Bai (60), all residents of Sironj. The sudden loss has plunged their families into grief, especially as the tragedy occurred during what is traditionally a festive and auspicious time.
Ten others, including three children, sustained injuries and were rushed to Hamidia Hospital and other private medical facilities in Bhopal for treatment. Doctors said some of the injured are in critical condition. The accident has once again highlighted concerns over road safety, particularly during festival seasons when highways witness heavy movement of pilgrims and vehicles.
