Many dead in New Zealand mosque shooting in Christchurch
Many people were reported dead at a crowded mosque in the New Zealand city of Christchurch, when a gunman opened fire on Friday, during the prayer hours.
Local media said at least six were killed and the South Island city was locked down as the police were hunting for the shooter.
“We are trying best to manage the situation, but the risk is too high,” police said in a statement.
One witness said he was praying in the Deans Ave mosque when he heard shooting and saw his wife dead on the footpath when he came outside.
Another person said that he saw children being shot. An eyewitness said that he heard shots and four persons were lying down, blood everywhere.
The shooter was wearing military-style clothing, media said reportedly. Local media reported a shooting at the second mosque in a Christchurch suburb.
Police said all the schools in the city were locked down due to the serious situation.
"Please do not try and come and collect your children until police say it is safe for people to come into the central city,” police said.
Bangladesh's entire cricket team was saved from a shooting, one of the players, Tamim Iqbal Khan said on Twitter.
Entire team got saved from active shooters!!! Frightening experience and please keep us in your prayers #christchurchMosqueAttack
