Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder: Wife Paid ₹20 Lakh to Kill Husband, Say Police

In a shocking revelation, Meghalaya Police disclosed that Sonam Raghuvanshi paid ₹20 lakh to contract killers to murder her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, during their honeymoon. The crime took place on May 23, 2025, in Sohra near Cherrapunji. Raja, a transport businessman from Indore, was found dead in a gorge on June 2.
According to investigators, Sonam allegedly conspired with her lover, Raj Kushwaha, and three hired killers. Initially, she paid ₹15,000 in advance and promised ₹15 lakh more to complete the murder. Police say Kushwaha later withdrew from the plan, but the other three carried it out after Sonam booked their travel.
The accused claimed they were reluctant to kill Raja, but Sonam insisted. The police are verifying these statements. An SIT from Meghalaya travelled to Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, arresting all suspects involved.
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong confirmed that the accused have confessed to the crime. “The wife is fully involved,” he said, emphasizing the calculated planning that led to the murder. Sonam was later found near a dhaba in Uttar Pradesh and arrested.
The case has drawn national attention due to its brutality and the betrayal involved. Sonam’s motive is believed to be linked to her extramarital affair, and police are now probing deeper financial and psychological aspects.
This murder case has exposed the dark undercurrents of domestic relationships gone wrong and raised questions about how such a premeditated crime could unfold during what was supposed to be a celebration of new beginnings. Investigations continue, with authorities seeking the harshest punishment for the accused.
