Messi Hailed Argentina's Coaching Staff!
Argentina's Lionel Messi praised the coaching staff for masterminding his team's 3-0 win over Croatia in their FIFA World Cup semifinal.
Argentina set up a final against either Morocco or defending champions France, Xinhua reported, as Messi scored from the penalty spot and assisted Julian Alvarez's second goal.
"This group is knowledgeable and knows how to suffer with and without the ball," Messi told reporters.
Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni reverted to a 4-4-2 formation after adopting a 5-3-2 shape for the quarterfinal against the Netherlands, which the Albiceleste won on penalties.
Argentina was able to thwart Croatia's midfield threat because of the change. Despite controlling 61% of possession, the 2018 runners-up were suffocated for space, and Argentina exploited significant gaps when dispossessed.
"They let us know about every detail, and that helps us to know what to do in all situations," Messi said.
With 11 goals, Messi has now overtaken Gabriel Batistuta as Argentina's most prolific World Cup scorer.
With five goals and three assists, he competes with France's Kylian Mbappe for the Golden Boot award.
"I'm feeling well and strong in every match," Messi said. "I've felt happy at this World Cup, and thankfully, I've been able to help the team."
