New CBI Chief Appointed - Rishi Kumar Shukla Appointed by PM-Led Panel
After a lot of controversy going on for the post of CBI chief, the post has finally being filled with former Madhya Pradesh DGP Rishi Kumar Shukla appointed as the next CBI director on Saturday.
Mr Shukla was Director General of Police of Madhya Pradesh for nearly two-and-a-half years. Although he has not served in the CBI, he was with Intelligence Bureau where he handled several sensitive matters.
According to the officials, 16 names were put before the selection committee. DG CRPF RR Bhatnagar and Rishi Shukla were the senior most in that list. Sources close to Mallikarjun Kharge said that the Congress leader in Lok Sabha objected to Shukla's name on grounds that he has never served in CBI and doesn't have any experience in anti-corruption investigation. Despite that the PM led team decided on selecting him as the new CBI chief.
The post of the CBI chief had been lying vacant for a long time now after the exit of Alok Kumar Verma. Finally, Mr Shukla who has served in Raipur, Damoh, Shivpuri and Mandsaur districts in different capacities, was DGP and had undergone crisis management and hostage negotiation training in the US has been selected.
