Nirbhaya Convicts’ Plea Rejected by SC, Hanging To Be Held Tomorrow
The supreme court has issued fresh death warrants for March 20 at 5:30 am against the four death row convicts in the Nirbhaya gang rape and murder case.
The final decision came after Supreme Court dismissed the plea of the accused Pawan Gupta, claiming to be a juvenile at the time of the crime. The four convicts in the 2012 case includes Mukesh Singh, Akshay Singh Thakur, Pawan Gupta, and Vinay Sharma.
However, Asha Devi, the mother of the victim, expressed her confidence by saying that the convicts will be hanged tomorrow. “The courts gave them so many opportunities that they have now got the habit of bringing something ahead of the hanging date in order to get it postponed. Now, even our courts are aware of their tactics,” Devi said.
Another convict Akshay Kumar Singh had also filed a mercy petition to President Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday. However, with it being rejected, the hanging has now been fixed on March 20.
Six people were convicted in the gang-rape and brutalizing of a 23-year-old paramedical student that shook the entire country. One of the convicts was a juvenile and another one, Ram Singh, allegedly committed suicide in Tihar Jail during the trial of the case.
