Panic at Palma Airport: Passengers Jump from Ryanair Plane Wing After Fire Alert

A terrifying incident unfolded at Palma de Mallorca Airport in Spain when a fire alert on a Ryanair Boeing 737 triggered chaos just moments before takeoff. The Manchester-bound flight was preparing for departure when the alarm was raised, prompting a swift emergency response and passenger evacuation.
As panic spread, several passengers escaped via the emergency exits, with some even climbing onto the aircraft’s wings and jumping to the tarmac to flee potential danger. Dramatic footage circulating on social media shows the frantic moments as travelers fled in fear. Authorities quickly rushed to the scene, with four ambulances—two basic and two advanced life support units—arriving within minutes. Airport firefighters and Civil Guard personnel also responded promptly.
According to the regional emergency coordination center, 18 individuals were injured during the evacuation. Six were transported to local hospitals for treatment—three to the Rotger Clinic and three to Hospital Quironsalud Palmaplanas. The rest received on-site medical assistance for minor injuries and shock.
While officials are yet to confirm the precise cause of the fire alert, no flames or smoke were found upon inspection, suggesting the possibility of a false alarm. However, the intensity of the evacuation underscores the seriousness with which airline and airport authorities handled the threat.
This incident raises concerns about emergency preparedness and the safety protocols passengers must follow during such situations. Though the response was quick, the chaotic escape highlights the need for calm and structured evacuation processes.
Fortunately, there were no fatalities or severe injuries, and authorities have launched an investigation into the alarm’s origin. Ryanair has yet to issue an official statement. Meanwhile, passengers are being rebooked, and normal operations at Palma Airport have resumed.
