The Delhi-Katra Vande Bharat Express was flagged off by Home Minister Amit Shah on October 3 and made available to common passengers from October 5th. The minimum fare for traveling between New Delhi to Sri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra station in the chair car is Rs 1,630 and for the executive chair car, it is Rs 3,015. It will run on all days of the week except Tuesday. The distance between Dehli and Katra is 655 km and now, the time taken to travel is just 8 hours. Earlier, it is required 12 to 14 hours to cover the distance.
The train will depart from the New Delhi Railway Station at 6 a.m. and will reach Katra at 2 p.m and the return journey starts on the same day, from Katra at 3 p.m and reaches Delhi at 11 p.m. The train runs at a maximum speed of 130 kmph on the Delhi-Katra route with three stops - Ambala, Ludhiana and Jammu Tawi, before reaching Katra. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had flagged off the first Vande Bharat Express on February 15 this year.
Railway Department took the decision to identify this route to make things easier for Vaishno Devi temple pilgrims as there would be a high volume of traffic, almost all the time, because of the visitors to the temple. The train is luxurious and the ticket fare of it includes morning tea, breakfast and lunch from New Delhi to Katra and afternoon tea and dinner will be included in the return journey.
