RBI's Deputy Governor Viral Acharya Resigns Before his Term Ends!
According to the sources, RBI Deputy Governor Viral Acharya who was in-charge of the monetary policy department has resigned six months before his term ends.
In December, Governor Urjit Patel resigned nearly nine months before his scheduled term ends and now, Deputy Governor did the same.
Acharya had joined the central bank on 23rd January last year after Patel was promoted as Governor in September 2016.
The RBI now has three deputy governors N S Vishwanathan, B P Kanungo and M K Jain. Acharya, a New York University economics professor, was appointed for three years.
He was appointed when the central bank was facing criticism for continuous changes in the rules of deposit and withdrawal of money after demonetization.
