The Indian Railways is set to operate 200 time-tabled non-air conditioned trains every day from June 1.
This will likely provide huge relief to people, especially those who are stranded at some other place and move to their home town. The purpose of running these passengers trains is to connect smaller towns and cities.
The tickets for these special passenger trains can only be booked online on the IRCTC website or on its app. “The booking will be done only online and shall commence in a few days. Schedule and trains to be announced soon,” the ministry said.
These trains will be in addition to the shramik special trains being already operated by the railway ministry. The routes and schedule of the fresh trains are yet to be announced.
State governments have been requested to help the workers register with the nearest railway station and give the list to the railways so that the railway workers can make arrangements.
“Efforts are being made to ensure that all of them (migrants) are able to travel to their home states at the earliest,” the statement by the railway ministry said.
