State Government, Control Cement Prices Urges Contractors
The state government needed to control the cost of cement urged the Coimbatore Corporation Contractors Welfare Association keeping in mind the exorbitant rising cost of cement bag in recent times.
The association submitted a petition recently to the special secretary of Tamil Nadu K Padmanaban seeking to control the rising cement prices. The filed petition was referred to the chief secretary of Industry for the actions to be taken in the future.
The petition which was filled by the association contained the information about the rising prices. It stated that the prices of cement have increased from Rs 340 per bag in January to Rs 380 per bag in February, which leads to an increase of 11.7%. This rising price has affected construction industries and government contractor. A bag of cement costs about Rs 330 in neighboring states, including Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
Through the prices of raw material are the same the prices of the cement are increasing through the roof, the increasing cement prices in every month has its effect on the increase in expenditure of construction sector by 5 to 8%.
The price rise is a threat to employment too, as about 1.2 crore workers are dependent on the construction sector.
