Wine shops in India are a great source of income for the government. It earns in crores while spoiling the health of the people is another thing. There are many people all over the country who are addicted to liquor and a huge percentage of them come under daily consumers. So, it is no wonder if the country is in a great loss now.
Since March 22nd, the wines shops remained closed and could you expect the loss incurred because of it? It is Rs 17500 crore! Telangana state has lost Rs 2000 crore while Andhra Pradesh lost Rs 750 crore. Of course, wine shop owners and state governments are worried about the loss, but the Central government is no mood to give permission to open the wine shops even after getting many requests.
The lockdown does good in many ways. But, these people who are addicted to liquor are now facing different issues. While some people are getting hospitalised, some are searching for other options, giving rise to the black market. According to the sources, some governments are even supporting people to get their job done in different ways.
As the lockdown is extended up to May 3, there is no way that wine shops will be opened before that under any circumstances. If the Coronavirus pandemic still shows its power, it is obvious that lockdown would be extended again and the same situation will be continued for wine shops.
