Telangana CM: Time To Revoke GO 111
CM KCR said on Tuesday that GO 111, which was issued in 1996 to prevent undue industrialization and heavy construction activities in 83 villages and pollution of Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar, would be revoked shortly.
Replying to a query in the Assembly, the CM said the GO had become redundant now. The order was issued to protect the drinking water sources of the Greater Hyderabad region, Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar. However, the State government has overcome the water shortage in the capital region by creating adequate alternate water sources.
Hyderabad did not face water problems for another 100 years because of projects such as the Sunkishala Intake Project and the Mallanna Sagar. Therefore the GO could be revoked.
At once, lifting the GO, which affected 83 villages and 1,32 lakh acres, could result in anarchy. Considering this, the Municipal Administration Minister and officials were asked to deal with the issue in phases after developing master plans and green zones. The Chief Minister said an expert committee was also looking into the matter.
“The expert committee report is awaited. As and when we receive that report, GO 111 will be lifted,” he said.
