There is prideful news for India as Telangana Seed body chief, an Indian, is now a vice-president of ISTA. Since 1924, for the first time, it has happened that an Indian has become a vice-president of ISTA. K Keshavulu who is the director of Telanaga State Seed and Organic Certification authority (TSSOCA) has achieved this milestone with extreme diligence. The representatives from different countries have voted Keshavulu for this coveted position.
Keshavulu hails from the Warangal district who has served nicely for the department of Telangana Seed body. His hard efforts made it possible for exporting the seed in the year 2016 under the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) from Telangana. These seeds were exported to countries like Sudan, Egypt, the Philippines, Italy, Russia, and Tanzania. For the past four years, the seed certified from TSSOCA is being supplied to more than 9 different states in India.
Mr. Keshavulu’s appointment as the VP will hopefully help in revamping the policies related to the seed testing, getting ISTA recognition from testing, collaborating with other countries, enlightening the quality of the seed. The governing body of ISTA consists of the president, vice-president, member of 8 people who will serve the term for 3 years. Telangana state is now hopeful that several multinational companies which are into producing the international level of seeds will establish their setup in the state. It will be very helpful in taking the state to the international level and create some employment opportunities in Telangana. It is now scheduled that the inauguration of the ISTA Congress will be done by the chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao soon.
Mr.Keshavulu will now hold the position for the next three-year term. It is also believed that he will be the next president of ISTA in 2022 which will be announced in New Zealand during the 33rd Congress.
