Indian roads are among the most notorious in the world as it claims over 1.5 lakh lives each year and most of it is due to people’s lack of traffic sense. The central government previously failed to take the necessary steps however it has decided to crack down on traffic offenses right now. This, they are doing by making the law and its subsequent punishment a lot more stricter.

To take care of the same, The Lok Sabha passed the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill 2019, to amend the provisions under the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988. There are many violations like Overloading Two-wheelers, Drunken Driving, Overspeeding, Dangerous Driving, Driving Without Car or Two Wheeler Insurance, Signal Jumping, Riding Without Helmet, Driving Without Permit and etc. Soon after the implication of the new rules, a man from Gurugram, Dinesh Madan a resident of East Delhi's Geeta Colony was penalized with Rs 23,000 for violating traffic rules. He was issued a challan for a whopping amount for violating multiple traffic rules. The bill was passed by Om Birla, a speaker of the Lower House of the Parliament.

Under the new traffic rules, the fines and penalties are increased by a huge amount for drunk driving, unauthorized use of vehicles, driving licenses, disobeying traffic laws.
