Two Dead, Twelve Injured in Separate Shootings Along New Orleans Parade Route
New Orleans was shaken on Sunday as two separate shootings left two people dead and twelve others injured during a celebration along a parade route, authorities reported.
The first incident occurred shortly after 3:30 PM in the St. Roch neighborhood, where police responding to reports of gunfire discovered eight people suffering from gunshot wounds. All eight victims were rushed to the hospital, though their conditions remain unknown.
Just 45 minutes later, another shooting was reported roughly a kilometer away on the same avenue. One person died at the scene, while another succumbed to their injuries at a hospital. A third victim, who was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle, is reportedly in stable condition.
The shootings unfolded in the midst of a "second line" celebration, a traditional parade-following event deeply rooted in the culture of New Orleans.
Police have yet to announce any arrests, and the investigation is ongoing as the community grapples with the tragedy.
