UK PM quits!

British PM Liz Truss resigned Thursday — bowing to the inevitable after a tumultuous 6-week term in which her policies triggered turmoil in financial markets and a rebellion in her party obliterated her authority.
She said, “I cannot deliver the mandate on which I was elected.”
Just a day earlier, Truss had vowed to stay in power, saying she was “a fighter and not a quitter.” However, Truss was forced to give up after a senior minister resigned and was subjected to a barrage of criticism, and a House of Commons vote descended into chaos and acrimony just days after her economic policies were abandoned.
Following weeks of turmoil sparked by her economic plan, a growing number of lawmakers called for Truss' resignation. The government's plan unveiled last month triggered financial chaos and a political crisis that resulted in the replacement of Truss' Treasury chief, multiple policy U-turns, and a breakdown in Conservative Party discipline. Her departure leaves a divided Conservative Party seeking a leader who can unify its warring factions.
There are several potential replacements, including Sunak, House of Commons leader Penny Mordaunt, and newly appointed Treasury chief Jeremy Hunt. There is no need to hold a national election until 2024. Home Secretary Suella Braverman resigned Wednesday after sending an official document from her personal email account, breaching rules.
