Why Mirage-2000 was used for air strikes across LOC
A Mirage -2000 fighter jet which entered Pakistan and struck down the biggest training camp of Jaish-e-Mohammed has been the best choice for this mission due to its many features.
Mirage-2000 is a lightweight multirole fighter designed in the 1970s by Dassault Aviation, the French defence manufacturer.T he Mirage-2000 uses a single shaft engine that is light and simple as compared to other fighter jet engines and is called SNECMA M53.
Mirage is ideally designed for a single fighter pilot but can be made into a twin-seat jet depending on the armed forces' requirements. It has a length of 14.36 meter and a wingspan of 91.3 meters. It weighs less and has high speed as compared to India's other fighter planes and is the reason why they were the option for the attack and handed advantage in the quick operation carried out. The Mirage 2000 has a maximum speed of Mach 2.2 (2336 kmph) and weighs about 17000 kg.
Mirage 2000 systems also allow automatic tracking of targets, hitting targets with precision in very long-range engagement and also engage moving targets. Saxena said, “Mirages have done their jobs. They are truly multirole: ground, air, low altitude, high altitude, and lightweight. It is a wonderful aircraft".
