Canada New Food guide – No Milk and Dairy Products - Vegan Diet.
An earlier food guide by Canada is mostly focused on four food groups represented in a rainbow scrim and which are healthy.
- Milk and Milk Products.
- Meat and alternatives.
- Grain products.
- Fruits and vegetables.
Contrastingly new food guide does not focus on Milk and substitute with a lot of plant-based food like fruits and vegetables consumed 50% of the plate also having an intake of protein lean meats. Let us have a look of new food guide of Canada.
- Fruits and vegetables like pears, apple, leafy, tomatoes, broccoli etc.
- Whole grain oats, whole grain bread, whole grain pasta etc.
- Protein food beans, lentils, lean meat etc.
Fascinating point is protein based food is included with lentils, tofu, beans etc which are more plant-based food items.
Dairy products like cheese, yoghurt, milk are an important food group previously. However, protein is taken alternately from plant-based foods instead of dairy products.
The new guide also includes eating meatless meals twice a week. And focusing on unprocessed food and lot of plant-based food. Dr Hasan Hutchinson, director of general health Canada said: “We were very clear that we are looking at the evidence base that we were not going to be using reports that have been funded by the industry as well”.
Water plays an important role in the new food guide. As replacing protein from plant-based food and taking ‘beverage of choice’ includes water to keep hydrated. If not we can include crushed berries in water and consume. However, we can add low-fat milk, low-fat dairy products, unsweetened low-fat yoghurt.
