Ranveer Singh Controversy Over AI-Generated Poster Sparks Sikh Community Outrage
Actor Ranveer Singh has found himself at the center of a controversy after a viral poster linked to his upcoming film Dhurandhar: The Revenge drew objections from members of the Sikh community. A formal complaint was filed at Mumbai’s Mulund Police Station, alleging that the imagery hurt religious sentiments.
The complaint, submitted by Sardar Gurjyot Singh of the organisation Sikhs in Maharashtra, raised concerns about a poster depicting a character in traditional Sikh attire—including a turban, beard, and kara—while smoking a cigarette. Community members argued that such a portrayal violates Sikh religious principles, as tobacco consumption is strictly prohibited in Sikhism and considered a serious breach of conduct.
The group has demanded immediate action, including removal of the poster, suspension of the film’s screening, and legal proceedings against those involved in its creation. They emphasized that the depiction trivializes sacred symbols and misrepresents Sikh identity.
The issue gained further attention after social media discussions amplified the controversy. However, it later emerged that the poster in question was not official but a fan-made image created using artificial intelligence. Reports also clarified that the film does not feature any song titled “Pralay,” which was mentioned in earlier criticisms.
Despite this clarification, the incident has sparked broader conversations about the misuse of AI-generated content and its potential to cause cultural and religious misunderstandings. As of now, the filmmakers have not released an official statement addressing the issue.
The episode highlights the growing need for caution and verification in the digital age, where misinformation can spread rapidly and trigger real-world consequences.
