Janhvi Kapoor’s Scenes in Peddi to Be Modified Following Audience Backlash
Director Buchi Babu Sana has announced that changes will be made to certain scenes in Peddi after the film faced criticism over the portrayal of actress Janhvi Kapoor’s character. The film, starring Ram Charan in the lead role, was released on June 4 and had been promoted as a culturally rooted Indian story. However, shortly after its release, sections of the audience raised concerns about the representation of women in the film.
Many viewers objected to certain romantic sequences involving Janhvi Kapoor’s character, Achiamma, alleging that the camera work, dialogues, and visual treatment of the character were inappropriate and objectifying. Critics argued that the character lacked significant importance to the main storyline and was largely presented as a romantic interest.
Responding to the controversy, Buchi Babu Sana issued a statement on social media, acknowledging the feedback and assuring audiences that the concerns were being taken seriously. He emphasized that cinema should entertain and connect with audiences without making anyone feel uncomfortable or disrespected. The director stated that neither he nor the team intended to demean or objectify women and apologized to those who felt offended by the portrayal.
He further confirmed that the filmmakers would revise the portions that sparked criticism. According to him, storytellers have a responsibility to adapt to changing social perspectives and sensitivities. He reiterated his commitment to portraying women with dignity and respect in future projects.
The announcement generated mixed reactions online. While many praised the director for accepting criticism and taking corrective action, others questioned how the controversial scenes were approved during production. Earlier, in an interview, Buchi Babu admitted that he had not expected such a negative response, explaining that the scenes were intended to depict a playful romance between the lead characters. He assured audiences that greater care would be taken in future representations.
