Shakuntalam Movie Officially Launched Today

Samantha Akkineni is all set to essay the title role of Shakuntala in the direction of Gunasekhar in a Telugu mythological drama Shakuntalam, which is based on Kalidasa’s nominative work. The official announcement was made on 1st January on the eve of the new year by the director who revealed the motion poster of the movie and termed the narrative as ‘mythology for millennials’.

The upcoming film, Shaakuntalam will be a pan-Indian project that will have the music composed by Mani Sharma. Recently the makers of the film roped in Malayalam actor Dev Mohan to essay the role of Dushyant. The film was officially launched today morning with a Pooja ceremony at the specially constructed sets in Annapurna Studios, Hyderabad.

Samantha Akkineni and Dev Mohan attended the event of the film, which is bankrolled by Neelima Guna and presented by Dil Raju. The actress will essay the titular character in this big-budget film. Gunasekhar’s previous offering was the periodic entertainer Rudhramadevi starring Baahubali actress Anushka Shetty in the lead role.

The moviemaker Gunasekhar had also announced the mythological movie Hiranyakashipu with Rana Daggubati, but the film has now been put on hold for unknown reasons. Meanwhile, Samantha is making her debut in the Web series with season two of The Family Man, which will be streaming soon on Amazon Prime Video.
