AIADMK Extends Support to Vijay’s TVK, Rules Out Alliance With DMK
In a significant political development in Tamil Nadu, senior AIADMK leader CV Shanmugam announced that the party has decided to extend support to Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). The decision comes after TVK’s recent political success, which has created major shifts in the state’s political landscape.
Addressing the media in Chennai, Shanmugam said AIADMK has always followed a strong anti-DMK ideology since its formation over five decades ago. He revealed that a proposal regarding possible cooperation with the DMK was discussed internally but was strongly rejected by the majority of party leaders and cadre.
According to him, AIADMK members believed any alliance or understanding with the DMK would damage the party’s identity and weaken its long-standing political principles. He stressed that the party’s core ideology remains firmly opposed to the DMK and compromising on that position would not be acceptable to supporters.
Shanmugam also said AIADMK is currently focused on rebuilding and strengthening its organisational structure after recent political setbacks. However, considering TVK’s emergence as a powerful political force and the changing political environment in Tamil Nadu, the party ultimately decided to extend support to Vijay’s movement.
The announcement is being viewed as an important turning point in Tamil Nadu politics, especially with actor-turned-politician Vijay gaining popularity among youth and urban voters. Political observers believe AIADMK’s support could further strengthen TVK’s position and influence in the coming years.
At the same time, the development reflects the growing challenges faced by traditional regional parties as new political movements continue attracting public attention. The statement has also sparked fresh discussions about future alliances, opposition strategies, and the direction Tamil Nadu politics may take ahead of upcoming elections.
