BRS Cadres Rally Behind KCR After Kavitha’s Suspension

The suspension of MLC K Kavitha from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) by party chief K Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR) has ignited strong reactions across Telangana, with leaders and cadres largely endorsing the move. Kavitha, suspended for her public criticism of senior party leaders including T Harish Rao and J Santosh Kumar, faced immediate backlash from grassroots workers, who expressed anger and disappointment over her remarks.
Following the announcement, posters and banners of Kavitha were removed, torn down, and even burnt in places such as Husnabad, Siddipet, Jagtial, Metpally, and Kamareddy. Party activists staged protests, accusing Kavitha of damaging the morale of workers and undermining the party’s credibility.
Senior BRS leaders praised KCR for prioritising the organisation’s integrity over family ties. Former minister Satyavati Rathod said the suspension proved KCR placed party values and the confidence of workers above personal relations. “For KCR, no one, not even his daughter, is bigger than the party,” she remarked.
Other leaders alleged that anti-party forces had influenced Kavitha to make controversial statements. Former MLA Gongidi Sunitha and former MP Maloth Kavitha blamed external provocation, while MLA Palla Rajeshwar Reddy said the action resonated with the sentiments of 60 lakh party workers. He accused the Congress of attempting to exploit divisions within the BRS.
MLA KP Vivekanand described the decision as a “sacrifice for the party,” while other senior figures such as MLC Dasoju Sravan, RS Praveen Kumar, and Gampa Govardhan said it was painful but necessary. They noted that Kavitha’s comments indirectly aligned with criticisms by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy regarding the Kaleshwaram project, thereby weakening BRS’s position.
Leaders reiterated that discipline and loyalty were paramount, and no individual could rise above the organisation.
