Congress Is the ‘Permanent Villain’ in Telangana’s History: KTR on Deeksha Divas
On the occasion of Deeksha Divas, BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao launched a strong attack on the Congress party, accusing it of repeatedly betraying Telangana throughout history. Addressing activists and Telangana movement veterans at Telangana Bhavan, he said the struggle for statehood was not merely a political movement but the identity and pride of the people of Telangana.
KTR condemned Congress leaders for downplaying the significance of KCR’s 2009 fast-unto-death, which transformed the movement into an unstoppable force. He questioned the moral right of current Congress leaders to speak about Telangana, stating that many of them were absent during the struggle and only stepped forward after statehood was achieved. He alleged that Congress leaders’ hands were “stained with the blood of Telangana’s martyrs” and declared that “without the three letters K-C-R, there would be no Telangana.”
He challenged the ruling party to demonstrate moral integrity by asking the ten MLAs they poached to resign and face re-election. KTR said Deeksha Divas must be celebrated like Dasara or Diwali, not as a ritual but as a reminder that truth and sacrifice triumph over oppression.
Invoking parallels with India’s freedom movement, he described KCR as the “indomitable son of Telangana” who spent years standing alone before the state united behind him. He also announced that the Rajiv Gandhi statue at the Secretariat entrance will be replaced with a statue of Telangana Thalli, symbolising restoration of Telangana pride.
KTR concluded by asserting that BRS, born from the people’s struggle, is the only party capable of defending Telangana from forces that want to weaken its autonomy. “Even in silence, KCR shakes politics. Telangana will rise again with his voice,” he declared.
